03: Story behind our songs- UniversalFilia

I can write so many things about this video.
I started to film this video/song last 2010 around London. As you can imagine by the flowers flying over the Kingston black stone church walls it was spring, a very pale and pinkie spring. It was amazing to see that, not only the petals dancing with themselves (yes remind me the title of that song by Billie Idol which I love!).
And then the discovery of the secret hidden under the petals... A "little pony". Actually it wasn't mine, it was lying under the petals like waiting for me to be filmed... I found it was an excelent methaphore to use, and then contrasting with the final horses dancing inside the circus... Even if the image is precious I found that those wonderful beasts shouldn't be acting like that... Is like us in many senses, we were born to do so much more interesting things than waiting on the queue or checking our mobiles every five minutes... Just like the wild horses.
The swans... Well I love swans since the day I came to London for the first time. Swans are not such lovely birds as you may believe. They are beautiful but could be quite scary some times... Like us again. Ducks are afraid of them usually. I keep a couple of swans feathers at home...
The lonely and green path at the park is one of my favourites places to go around... Shapes are perfect.
I love circus. Not animal circus, just the idea of circus. I love theirs lights, their magic, their bizarre culture. I envie the girls doing the trapeze...
As the song was in a way to say goodbye and to let my sadness fly away, it was a very difficult video to do for me...

I never thought this sadness dress would fit me
I never thought to feel so closely
Why we all prune those nice trees to still bloom in spring
Why I couldn't make you breath...

If I have my heart still inside me
what its feeling would be
and because you had to leave
I had to take it out of me
I wonder what the rhythm would be
would you please give me back the beat...
would you please give me back the beat...
would you please give me back the beat...

(thanks to Natalie for reading my spelling at that long time ago)

See you next time,

02- Story behind our songs: Ways to the road movie

(English/ Spanish) Ways to the road movie, the first song I've written in England. This is the way I felt, "ways that are not mine open up my mind.." while I was trying to find many answers - and still looking for -. The original song was called “Calles UK” and was composed in Spanish. I wrote it while I was walking from one train station to other, I still remember the feeling…

Before alasVALS was born I sung almost two years in a local band in London. I used to sing this song but only a’capella because none of the musicians felt confidence enough to play over the song in the way I used to sing. Maybe some people that heard my song at that time at the National Theatre, The Spitz, Notting Hill Arts Club or The Space in Docklands remember it now...

The version you listen at our cd “Felicidad Equidistante” -2008- shows the freedom and improvisation of eclectic percussionist Nando Gómez, a human treasure that shared this music experience with me during almost three years – Nando passed away at the end of 2008- . Still missing him every day, still listen his drums playing as a gift… Then also was Sandra Conte in bass, the apotheosis and other arrangements by David Aguirre with a synthetizer that seems never has an ending, and my deformed loop over I rest all the song.

I decided to name the song “Ways to the road movie” instead of only “Ways”.

The video was recorded at Teddington and Bushy Park during a snowy day.

01- Story behind our songs: Intra TV by alasVALS

(English/ Spanish)
Hi, I though would be nice to tell you the stories behind some of our songs...
“Intra TV” is a song by alasVALS talking about life before giving birth...
The Video was filmed and edited by myself- Silvia Demetilla - with pacu fishes, also known like faux piranhas- in London. When I sung the song to David he was very curious about the word '"lanugo" because you only know that word when you are pregnant to be honest. And the funny thing was that he thought is was the name of a fish...
Lanugo is fine, downy hair that grows on fetuses as a normal part of gestation, but is usually shed and replaced by vellus hair at about 33 to 36 weeks of gestational age (by Wikipedia).
Hipnotic and oniric images talking about the feeling of having a television inside the body.
“Intra TV”, from the album Equidistant Happiness released at the end of 2008 by indie label "Mistica y Febril".

no puedo respirar, no puedo respirar...

Azulada quise estar, a tu lado quise siempre parar,
A tu lado quise siempre estar, a tu lado quiero siempre estar."

Do you fall in love with every stranger?

(English/ Spanish)

Do you fall in love with every stranger?
Do you buy at all the sales?
Do you like all perfumes?
Do you take every bus no matter the direction it goes?
Do you listen any music?
There are hundreds of beautiful songs, why do you choose the songs you listen into?

I wish I coincidence in time and space with you –if you are reading this- .
Is like falling in love you and me. Is like finding the words, the clouds, the rain, the sun, the hope…

Imagine there is an instant when every person is not convinced by the media, radio stations, tv, internet, facebook, friends, family… What would you choose to listen “today” right now if you weren’t influenced by all that?

Today I would climb the hills of an enigmatic Kate Bush, I would submerge into the lightness of El perro del mar, I would cross the darkness of Nick Drake, I would fly in the trapezes of Christian Basso and it’s pathetic clown and finally I would reach the light with Anthony the Johnsons.  There is so much to discover, yet. At least for me...
Thank you for reading…me. www.alasvals.com
